Trinchera Ensamble

La Trinchera es un colectivo de artistas, provenientes de diferentes disciplinas y nacionalidades. Este colectivo nace en marzo de 2004 como respuesta a una invitación del 1º Festival de Improvisación de la Ciudad de México. A partir de entonces, se evidenció la posibilidad de realizar improvisaciones visuales en tiempo real, utilizando tecnología análoga. Lo novedoso de este experimento es que la imagen final es un auténtico cadáver exquisito visual, en el que cada integrante aporta un segmento. Un segmento que implica una determinada sensibilidad, una técnica y una estética.
Los artistas improvisan observando el resultado en la proyección. Cada uno trabaja su proyector con técnicas
experimentales distintas y la yuxtaposición de esos trabajos da como resultado una proyección abstracta,
no narrativa, que evoca atmósferas, conectándose con lo intuitivo del espectador. Se trata de un discurso más emotivo y onírico, que documental o ficticio. Cada artista participa con su proyecto personal y lleva al colectivo sus inquietudes
y sus destrezas. Lográndose una convergencia entre disciplinas que pocas veces co-existen como el Cine; el Video,
la Fotografía, la Pintura, el Performance y la Música.

La Trinchera est un collectif de six artistes issus des différentes disciplines et nationalités.

Ce collectif naît en mars 2004 en reponse d’une invitation du premier Festival d’improvisation libre de Mexico.
A partir de là , nous avons eu l’évidence de la possibilité de
réaliser des improvisations visuelles en temps réel, en utilisant la
technologie analogique et numérique. La nouveauté de cette expérience,
c’est que l’image finale est un authentique cadavre esquis visuel dans
lequel chaque participant apporte un segment.
Un segment qui implique une sensibilité , une technique et une
esthétique déterminée.Les artistes improvisent en observant le résultat de la projection.

Chacun travaille son projet avec de techniques expérimentales diverses
et la juxtaposition de ces travaux donne comme résultat une projection
abstraite, non-narrative, qui évoque des atmosphères, en se connectant
avec l’intuitif du spéctateur.

Il s’agit d’un discours plus émotif et onirique que documentaire oufictif.

Chaque artiste participe avec son projet personnel et amène au
collectif leur inquiétudes et leur détresses. Arrivant vers une
convergence entre disciplines telles que le cinéma, la vidéo, la
photographie, la peinture, la performance et la musique.

La Trinchera (“the trench”) is an Austrian-Mexican projection collective based in Mexico City.

La Trinchera found its beginnings in the First "Festival of
Improvisation" staged in the City of Mexico, 2004. The founding legend has it that
a bet was made at the festival that only musicians could
"jam". On being challenged by an invited musician, Doris Steinbichler
responded "Bet We Can!"

On the very next day, visualists joined the concert, and launched a
surprise visual Jam staged from a metaphorical Trench of equipment
shooting imagery out across the musicians. Thus was founded 'La Trinchera', or the Trench.

Since then, La Trinchera has operated as generator of impulses. As a
"free fire zone," as a call to experimentation, and as an incalculable
risk in the clash of individual creative spirit in the immediacy of a
visual situation, La Trinchera has successfully brought together more than
20 artists of many diverse world views.

Together, they tugged on divergent strings to record their presence, to
bundle the diversity of their projections interactively:
The contrast of archaic kitchen implements on overhead projector,
the culture of film handmade in 16 mm,
the craft in slides of all-purpose glue and permanent-ink markers,
the infinite feedback of video cameras eating themselves,
and instead of fingers on the mixer, hands touch light-cones and fine
tune the mix to encourage rythmic pulses.

Every visual is in flow, constantly changing, living on the immediacy
of impartial reactions. Communication is open, no barrier, no
resistance. Tiny nuances are grasped, made visible, and transfered to new visual
variations. Here the variety of different traditions rub against
themselves on a very creative and human level.
